Musk blames X outage on cyberattack

Elon Musk stated on Monday that X experienced a “massive” cyberattack, leading to widespread disruptions for users of the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Thousands of users encountered difficulties accessing X, which Musk attributed to a significant cyberattack.
“A massive cyberattack targeted X and is still ongoing. We face attacks daily, yet this one involved extensive resources. It was either executed by a well-organized group or possibly a nation,” Musk posted on the platform.
An industry insider specializing in internet infrastructure revealed that X was struck by multiple waves of denial-of-service attacks starting around 9:45 UTC.
The source, who requested anonymity due to the lack of authorization to discuss the issue publicly, explained that denial-of-service attacks work by flooding websites with malicious traffic. While these attacks are not always highly advanced, they can still cause major disruptions.
According to Downdetector, X was experiencing intermittent service failures, preventing 11,745 users in the U.S. from accessing the platform as of 1:46 PM ET.
Outage reports temporarily decreased before surging to around 26,579, based on user-submitted data from the outage-tracking website. Earlier in the day, the number of reports peaked at approximately 40,000.
